NEWS

-June 4th, 2008-

ITC has created two new Cat's Cradle teams; one of them is 400 Babies.

Cat's Cradle shows are 45 minutes of limit-pushing scenework as our ten members attempt to always be on stage for the whole show while still making sense. There are not always ten characters in a scene because people become scenary, objects, animals, etc, to support the scenework and transform it into something new.

Cat's Cradle is an improv show performed with the first law of thermodynamics in mind: energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be changed from one form to another.

Accidental Company has returned from the Montreal Sketch Festival. Much thanks to the organizers for inviting us and a congratulations to the other troupes who performed. We had fun, we did some new material, we met our first pornographer. Ah, Montreal.

BTW, this particular actress recommends Pirates for your film collection. Great CGI.

As Air Farce ended for the season, it was announced by CBC that the show would be cancelled as of December 31, 2007. It will return for a half season - a final farewell - in October. At this point, it is unknown if I will be participating in their final months but, of course, I would love to.

So, what am I doing with my time? Laying in the sun and perfecting the homemade Mojito. And to a lesser degree, writing and auditioning.

Two weeks ago I took a weekend improv intensive with Charna Halpern, the creator of longform improv. It was amazing. This past weekend, I took another intensive with DSI founder, Zach Ward, which was also amazing. This is all perparation to steal their ideas for my OWN improv class which I am teaching through ITC. If anyone you know is interested in improv, Brian would be happy to teach you improv 101, or as I call it, Brian's Advanced Basics to Awesomeness.

-November 12th 2007-

Come see Accidental Company at the 3rd Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival this Wednesday. We share the stage with Polecats and 37 Foxtrot. Tickets available here.

-November 4th 2007-

Two and half months later and I am still writing for Air Farce Live. Check out their website for the episodes you missed. You will find my major contributions in episode 2 (Global News, Nothing to Declare, Marcel Marceau) and episode 4 (Marc Garneau). You can also have fun wading through the openers and closers for jokes that sound Brian-y.

The National aired a little doc on our first episode; watch it here.

Flying High

I have been hired to write for The Royal Canadian Air Farce. The first episode of the season airs on October 5th on CBC.

Extraordinairy Rendition in New York City

Firstly, huge thanks for everyone who came to our fundraiser. It was a fantastic show featuring such amazing people as Lisa Merchant & Peter Oldring, Katie Crown, Levi MacDougall, Kathleen Phillips, Steve Sholtz, Alana Johnston & Kurt Smeaton. Thanks for helping us out.

ER and I had a great time in NYC. I was lucky enough to take a workshop with Owen Burke (UCB) and meet all the gents from the Upright Citizens Brigade (Matt Walsh, Matt Besser, and Ian Roberts). On Saturday night, I visited the Magnet Theatre, another great improv theatre, and performed in their mixer.

It was the most inspirational experience as a performer and the craziest party I have ever been to. I hope to return to camp improv next year.

-July 17th 2007-

ER is headed to NYC next week to do some improv at the Del Close Marathon. We're having a fundraiser on Wednesday, July 25th, which includes some pretty amazing acts. Come support the team!

Fringe Wrap Up

The Toronto Fringe Festival is over and it was a big success for Accidental Company. HYBMF smashed all previous attendance records by a million times, approximately. Also, our impact on the Toronto theatre scene will be physically felt for generations:

We were featured in the style section of Eye Magazine; The Opening Night Contest, to win your name as the title of the show, attracted over 1600 votes from complete strangers; and in commemoration for finishing our show about people being famous for no reason, I created these new troupe photos for AC.

A big thank you to everyone who came. Likely, Accidental Company will take a break for a few weeks but we will let you know when the next big show is happening. Cheers.

AC's HYBMF at the TFF is getting great reviews from our fans. Check it out:

Accidental Company's Toronto Fringe show is a three star hit . Check Eye Magazine for details.

Also, I happened to participate in the Fringe's 24 hour play contest. Here's proof

New Awesome Minutes are up on the AUDIO page. Their air dates are on the INDEX. This is bad planning.

Update on the I Am Liberal ads: not only were they reaired on CTV last week but a political debate show in England aired them too. I've gone international!

A friend told me the Subway ads are now airing, at least on Flow radio. Finally, I'm getting back to my roots. [Flow is a scottish-traditional station, right?]

-June 6th 2007-

Last week, the Young Liberal Ads got a fair bit of attention in the political realm. They were aired and discussed on CTV's Mike Duffy Live, and were debated on the blogosphere. Here I am on the cover of The Hill Times, Ottawa's most popular weekly political newspaper.

-June 1st 2007-

A few weeks ago, a friend asked me to be in some Young Liberals of Canada web ads. The ads were released early this week on the YLC Website, Facebook, and You Tube .

I've never been the subject of controversy, so allow me to wallow in it for a bit. Here are some of my favourite comments:

"Good likable actors."- FreddyFrogger

"...the guy in drag is better looking than the real chick! -GnipGnu

"I wasn't impressed with these commericals they look like softcore porn to me. The Lighting, Acting and Scripting is shit and I know this cause I'm in the Theatre Industry." -Peter Allan Ker

-May 30th 2007-

Extraordinary Rendition has been accepted to the 9th Annual Del Close Marathon in New York City. This amazing improv event is named in honour of the Del Close, the father of improv.

-May 17th 2007-

Brian is the voice of Subway Restaurant's new radio campaign. If you want to know what the sub of the day is, don't go to the restaurant or ask Brian directly; instead turn on the radio and wait.
